The 2009 Mosquito National Titles were held at the Wallaroo Sailing Club on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The weather was perfect with the string of light wind National titles broken with great wind. Up all eight races were held and the racing was close in both the Mark I and Mark II divisions.
The most remarkable result must go Peter Hallsworth and Hubert Tucker on The Ancient Mariner. They were the oldest crew and sailing a 17 year old set of hulls yet managed a win in the last race on Friday morning.
The overall champions are the same as last year with Bob Wilson taking out the Mark I title and Warwick Kemp and Emily Finck the Mark II.
Check the photos out in the photo gallery

The wind gauges were showing 15 knots with regular gusts up to 25 knots. The wind plus some large waves made for a tiring day. 4 Mossies started, just. Phil Flarety wasn’t satisfied with how wet he was getting, and decided to leave his crew and go and have to swim. It’s always best to hook up before heading out on trap. Then there was 3. Simon and Sarah on “The Young Mariner” had a very tight race with Warrick and Erin on “Atreus”. The lead changed several times with a very fast reach being the difference in the end with “The Young Mariner” taking the win. Darryn Kopp on “Bullet” was close all day but finished in 3rd and was absolutely stuffed (might not have been the word he used), which isn’t surprising when you consider the photos. Mosquito’s go quickest when they aren’t at periscope depth. Maybe “Bullet” is armed....
Light winds were the order of the day at the Adelaide Sailing Club. Seven Mossies rigged but only three Mark 1’s elected to sail in the 5 knot and failing wind. Darryn Kopp on Bullet got the better of the start with Ben Clark on Chicken Skin’s start 10 minutes after the gun being questionably legal. Allan Pettman on The Ultimate had a legal start but got caught in some light breeze on the first leg. All mossies managed to give three cheers to the Commodore and Bullet should have won the Open Cat class on Handicap after beating the A’s and Nacra’s to the finish. Chicken Skin and the Ultimate finished far enough behind as to not matter...
No official results have been seen as yet.
